National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced a new digital facility enabling citizens to complete biometric verification for Punjab arms licences through a mobile application, marking a significant step toward streamlined public services in Pakistan.

According to a NADRA spokesperson, applicants seeking an arms licence can now submit their requests via the official Punjab Arms Licence website and complete biometric verification remotely using the Pak ID mobile app. This new system removes the need for citizens to visit offices in person, offering greater convenience and efficiency.

The initiative follows a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department in November 2025, which had suspended all processes related to the verification and computerisation of manual arms licences. The suspension applied to licences held by individuals, institutions, and private security companies.

Under the updated policy, authorities stated that previous instructions regarding the computerisation of manual licences have now been withdrawn. Earlier, citizens and organisations were given a final opportunity to convert their old manual licences into digital records, but that process has since been discontinued.

Officials further revealed that the Home Department has requested detailed reports from divisional commissioners and additional secretaries (judicial) concerning arms licences that were computerised between March and November. These reports aim to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.

In addition, authorities have sought updates on efforts to recover illegal weapons and advance the province-wide de-weaponisation campaign. The move reflects the government’s broader objective to enhance security measures and regulate arms ownership more effectively.

The introduction of mobile-based biometric verification is expected to improve accessibility while strengthening oversight in the arms licensing system across Punjab.
